Special Educational Needs

Welcome to Robertswood School’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Mental Health Page.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Robertswood School

What is SEND?

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (often referred to as ‘SEN’ or ‘SEND’) is a term used to describe learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for a child to learn compared to children of the same age.

All children may experience challenges with their learning at some point and for most children, these difficulties can be overcome with support from school and home. However, children with SEND are likely to need extra or different help to be able to learn.

Robertswood School’s SEND Provision

At Robertswood, we aim to support all children to enable them to achieve their personal potential. Quality First teaching is at the heart of delivering a broad and balanced curriculum and we welcome children with Special Educational Needs as part of our inclusive approach. We have high expectations of our children and want them all to feel a valued part of our school community. We operate a ‘whole pupil, whole school’ approach to the management and support of pupils with Special Educational Needs. Our aim is to raise the aspirations and expectations of all children, including those with SEND. You can find out more about Robertswood School’s SEND provision in our Local Offer (located below). Each year, we also write a SEND school report, which outlines the provision for children with special educational needs or disabilities at Robertswood (located below).

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) at Robertswood is Mrs Ford. She can be contacted via the school office at office@robertswoodschool.co.uk or you can call her on 01753 888327.

Mental Health Support at Robertswood School

At Robertswood, we strive to put the wellbeing and mental health of all of our children and adults above anything.

Mrs Davison is the Senior Mental Health lead in school and she is always looking for ways to support all of our children, parents and teaching team.

We have an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant in school. She works on a 1:1 basis with individual children who have identified worries, including self-esteem issues and friendship concerns.

We have two Nurture Practitioners who run a nurture group, named Butterflies. This group offers opportunities for a group of children to develop their self-esteem, social skills, confidence and communication skills.
