Reception

Welcome to Reception

In Reception at Robertswood, we love to learn through play and active learning!

In Reception, we have a bespoke curriculum that supports children to focus on the seven areas of learning and development. Our curriculum is flexible, carefully sequenced and planned in order to meet the needs of each individual child that attends our setting.

In the Early Years, we provide children with a language rich environment where they learn to communicate in a range of situations. We support our children to manage emotions, develop a positive sense of self, have confidence in their own abilities set themselves simple goals and to persist when things are difficult.

We provide repeated and varied opportunities that allow the children to safely take risks and develop skills that allow them pursue happy, healthy and active lives.

We recognise that personal experiences help children to increase their knowledge and sense of the world around them, so we provide children with ample learning opportunities through a diverse range of topics such as people who help us, minibeasts and much more.

Highlights of Reception include going to Forest School, putting on a Nativity at Christmas, hatching ducklings and learning through hands on experiences.

Our trips include visiting Waddesdon Manor to help us learn about Fairy Tales and going to Hertfordshire Zoo to see the animatronic dinosaurs and animals that live there.

We provide children with the knowledge and skills that they need to be successful as they transition through the school into KS1 and KS2.

Through daily story sessions, we support the children to develop life-long love of reading. Every day, we have short carpet sessions where we support the children with their phonics, writing and number knowledge.
